Blyth Wind Farm was the first offshore windfarm to be constructed in the uk.
In 2000 North Sea Logistics was involved at the begining of the contract from construction until completion,
and still supplies a vessel for the o & m period to date.
The experience gained from this first project proved invaluable for future offshore windfarm developments
of vessels & transfer techniques.
The two 2MW turbines at the Blyth offshore wind farm were at the time of construction the largest erected offshore in the world.
They were also the first to be built in such a demanding position, subject to the full forces of the North Sea.
Blyth offshore wind farm was opened in December 2000, and the plant has been producing enough clean and renewable electricity to power 3,000 average households ever since.
The turbines were manufactured and installed by Vestas, they are owned by Blyth Offshore Wind Ltd (BOWL) a consortium consisting of Shell,Powergen.Nuon and Amec wind.
